Pre-K Counts Attendance Action Plan

The maximum number of allowable absences for a child enrolled in the Pre-K Counts (PKC) program is 18 days per program year. Absences are counted from the first day of school through the last day of the PKC program year. Only days when PKC is in session are counted; scheduled breaks, closures, or non-PKC days do not count against a child’s attendance.

Consecutive absences should not exceed 5 days unless approved in advance by the program. By signing the enrollment agreement, families agree to follow the PKC attendance policy. This policy is in place to promote consistent attendance, support continuity of learning, and ensure children receive the full benefit of the program.

If a child has more than 5 consecutive unexcused absences or accumulates 12 unexcused absences total, the program and family must work together to develop an Attendance Action Plan. This plan will help identify any barriers to regular attendance and determine appropriate supports to encourage consistent participation.
